Try these cleaning tips before hiring professional upholstery cleaning

Upholstery is one of the most important parts of any room in your home. It is where we sit, where we relax, and often where we fall asleep. From chilling out after work to watch your sports team to relaxing on a well-earned day off, your upholstery is somewhere that you will spend a lot of personal time. As you no doubt know, though, cleaning and caring for upholstery is not easy!

If you want to keep those chairs, sofas, and armchairs in top condition, you should try out the following cleaning tips. If these do not manage to bring your upholstery back to its peak condition, then you should think about hiring professional upholstery cleaning. Generally, though, this simple cleaning solution should help you to keep your upholstery looking grand.

How to clean your upholstery like chairs, sofas, and armchairs

The first step to make sure that you can clean up those upholstery objects is to use a vacuum. Take a vacuum to the upholstery and give it a thorough once-over. This means making sure that you pay special attention to areas where dust tends to build up, including down the sides and in the pockets.

Get rid of as much of this as you can, because you do not want to be cleaning a chair that is already dirty. This simply spread around the dirt and dust. Vacuuming first, though, will remove much of this. Now, you should give your upholstery a ‘spot clean’ – this means looking for any particular areas where stains are present. Most of the time, this should be cleaned using a combination of tepid water and white vinegar. Dab the area with a microfibre cloth. When finished, clean that area with a mixture of water and detergent to help make sure the vinegar smell does not linger.

Next, you should wash the seat down using a mixture of detergent and warm water. For every tablespoon of detergent, use 1l of water. Do this, and then wipe down the upholstery as best you can.

Allow this to dry out, and then give it a wipe-down. This should be done using a damp microfibre cloth, and once you are done you should then rinse the chair to get rid of any detergent that might still be built up. This should be done using a detergent-free water solution. Take your time and make sure that you look to cover every stain or spot that you see.

Once you finish doing this, you must allow it to dry naturally. Get as many windows and doors open as you can so that they can be properly air-dried. During the winter, you might find it easier to use a flannel to wipe down the chair to get rid of as much moisture as you can.

Use the above tips, and you should be left with a chair that looks much better than it did beforehand. If you still feel like your upholstery does not look as good as you want, it might be a wise choice to hire a professional.
